Terms of Service

Last updated: August 25, 2026 · Applies to the Murphy app for iOS and Android

In plain words

Murphy is a visual money journal, not a bank or a financial advisor. Your diary lives on your device and backing it up is in your hands. Murphy+ is a monthly or yearly subscription billed by Apple or Google. Murphy's AI messages are machine-written observations — enjoy them, but don't treat them as professional advice.

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and the Murphy team ("we", "us") covering your use of the Murphy app and related services. By using Murphy you accept these terms. If you downloaded Murphy from the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the extent it grants you more protection.

2. What Murphy is (and isn't)

Murphy is a personal diary for recording spending and turning it into drawings. It is not a bank, payment service, accounting service, or source of financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Figures shown in Murphy are based only on what you enter, and Murphy's messages — including AI-generated ones — are for reflection and entertainment. Make financial decisions with a qualified professional, not a potato.

3. Your diary and backups

Your entries, memos, and drawings are stored on your device and belong to you. Because we keep no copy, you are responsible for creating and safekeeping backups using the app's export feature. We are not able to recover a diary that was deleted without a backup.

You may export and share stories made from your diary. You control the preview and are responsible for checking what you choose to reveal and for having the right to share it. Murphy hides sensitive fields by default, does not post automatically, and may add a small Murphy wordmark and an expiring opaque link. Recipients may use that link to reach Murphy's web preview or the appropriate store.

4. Murphy+ subscription

5. AI-generated messages

6. Fair use

Don't misuse the service — including attempting to break, overload, or reverse-engineer it; bypassing usage limits or purchase verification; using the AI service outside the app; or using Murphy for anything unlawful. We may suspend access to online features (never your on-device diary) to protect the service or other users.

7. Our stuff

Murphy's app, character, artwork, and branding are ours and protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app on your devices. Content you create in your diary is yours; exports that include the Murphy wordmark may be shared freely.

8. Disclaimers and liability

Murphy is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. To the same extent, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data where we did not hold the data — remember, your diary and backups are in your custody. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer-protection law gives you.

9. Ending or changing the service

You can stop using Murphy at any time by deleting the app. We may update the app and these terms; if we make material changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect, and continuing to use Murphy afterwards means you accept them. If we ever discontinue online features, the on-device diary and export features will keep working.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. If you use Murphy in the United States, mandatory protections of U.S. federal law and of your state's consumer-protection laws also apply to the extent they cannot be excluded by agreement. Nothing in this section deprives you of mandatory protections of the law of the country where you live.
