Common questions
Where is my diary stored? Do I need an account?
No account, ever. Your entries, memos, and drawings are stored only on your phone. We have no copy — which also means we can't recover your diary for you if the app is deleted without a backup.
How do I back up my diary, or move it to a new phone?
In Settings, export a backup. Murphy creates an encrypted backup file you can save to your files or cloud storage of choice. On your new phone, install Murphy and import that file from Settings. Keep backups somewhere safe — they're the only copy besides your device.
How do I manage or cancel my Murphy+ subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by the store you bought them from, not inside Murphy:
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Murphy+, or Apple's guide.
- Android: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or Google's guide.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. After cancelling, Murphy+ stays active until the end of the paid period.
How do refunds work?
Purchases are billed by Apple or Google, so refunds go through them: reportaproblem.apple.com for the App Store, or Google Play's refund page for Android. If you get stuck, email us and we'll point you the right way.
I reinstalled the app — how do I restore Murphy+?
Open the Murphy+ screen in Settings and tap "Restore purchases" while signed in to the same Apple or Google account you bought it with.
An AI message from Murphy felt wrong or hurtful. What do I do?
Use the report option on the message — reports come straight to us and we review them. Murphy's AI messages are meant to be kind observations about spending patterns, never judgments about you; the optional spicier persona only ever runs after you explicitly turn it on, and you can switch persona any time in Settings.
How do I delete my data?
Your diary lives only on your device, so deleting the app deletes your data. Any backup files you exported remain wherever you saved them — delete those too if you want everything gone. Details in our privacy policy.
Can I use Murphy in Korean?
네! Murphy ships in English and Korean and follows your system language — handwriting fonts included in both.
